The village of Viscri is one of the most authentic rural communities in Transylvania. It became a popular rural escape for many tourists, both Romanians and foreigners. Many of the old local houses have been transformed into small guesthouses or restaurant, where tourists can try local dishes, freshly cooked with local products. The architecture of the houses is typical for the Saxon communities in Transylvania and in the middle of the village tourists can admire a well-preserved Gothic-style fortified church, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993
